No. 17 – Judge Bites Dog

Jim Murray’s Judge Dredd cover for prog 1109 (1998) v theatrical poster for Belgian cult classic C’est arrivé près de chez vous (AAA/Roxie Releasing/Palisades Tartan, 1992) [officially translated from the French as It Happened in Your Neighborhood, and released with English subtitles under the title Man Bites Dog]

Although it is never depicted or even suggested in the documentary-style film itself, the original poster features a baby’s pacifier with spattering blood coming from an unseen target at the end of amiable serial killer Ben’s (played by Benoît Poelvoorde) gun. For foreign release posters [not including the Region 4/Australian release], the baby’s pacifier was changed to a set of dentures.

The tag line “Dead Man Stalking!” on prog 1109’s cover refers to the phrase “Dead Man Walking!” traditionally used in U.S. prisons to announce the escorting of a condemned prisoner to their place of execution.
